Ponderosa Shropshire - Bulky (limited edition)

4 items left

We have a limited amount of extra Shropshire skeins from our January box for the Beyond Merino Yarn Club. which we're now making available to members.

Our first yarn for the 2025 edition of the Beyond Merino club is a light and fluffy woollen-spun single-ply bulky yarn, sourced from The Ponderosa farm in Oyama, BC, and spun at Custom Woolen Mills in Carstairs, Alberta.

Shropshires are a heritage Down breed and this yarn was spun with lamb’s wool which can be finer and softer than wool from older sheep. Down-breed wool is generally springy, with good elasticity and strength, and does not felt particularly well.

This plump and squishy yarn knits up very quickly, and is ideal for simple textures and patterns. Garter stitch, big cables, and simple colourwork patterns would all work well.

Notes

"Cayo Coco" was this month's bright colour option, "Opulence" was the rich option, and "Stormy Skies" was the neutral option. Since we had quite a bit of extra yarn this time, we've added some extra colour options this month, as well as some "one-of-a-kind" skeins created during our colour development process.
