We have a limited amount of extra BFL/alpaca skeins from our September box for the Beyond Merino Yarn Club. which we're now making available to members.
This month's yarn is a 90% BFL wool/10% alpaca, fingering weight yarn, sourced from New Wave Fibre in British Columbia, Canada. It’s a 2-ply semiworsted, spun at the Dristex mill in Innisfail, Alberta.
BFL is among the softest of the longwool breeds, and grows in long, lustrous ringlets, which can make smooth, dense yarns. Alpaca is also more dense than most wools, so the characteristics of both fibres, combined with the semi-worsted spinning (which also creates a denser and smoother yarn than woollen-spun) means that this yarn is quite dense. This combination of fibres also has less elasticity than some other wools so it has more drape and less “bounce”.
This yarn is on the heavier end of fingering-weight, and could easily be substituted for sport-weight in some patterns.
"Twilight" was this month's cool colour option, "Golden Hour" was the warm option, and "Rosewood" was the neutral option.
