The Colour Wheel Adventures Yarn Club is a mini-course in colour theory and colourwork knitting, shipped right to your door! The club will run from September 2024 - August 2025, with twelve yarn boxes shipped throughout the year.
You can choose to pay for all 12 shipments at once, or subscribe on a quarterly or monthly basis. Your purchase includes your yarn boxes (shipped by the 20th of every month), educational materials (provided in PDF and video format), access to our Zoom meet-ups, and an invitation to join our club-specific online discussion space.
-
The pricing for the yarn club is as follows (all prices in CAD, not including tax):
- Monthly subscription: $42 (automatically charged every month)
- Quarterly subscription: $119.70 (automatically charged every 3 months)
- Full year, prepaid: $428.40 (one-time payment)
All subscription options include FREE oversized lettermail shipping (untracked) within Canada. The shipping cost for US addresses is $5 CAD/month (untracked). If you wish to upgrade to tracked shipping, please contact us before subscribing.
-
If you choose our monthly subscription option you'll be charged for the first box on the day you subscribe, and your payment method will be automatically charged on the 25th of every following month for the duration of the subscription.
If you choose our quarterly subscription option you'll be charged for the first box on the day you subscribe, and your payment method will be automatically charged every three months from that date for the subsequent boxes.
If you choose to pay for the full year you'll only be charged once for all 12 boxes, at the time of purchase.
-
We’ve carefully planned the packaging of these boxes so that they can be shipped as oversized lettermail, and the cost of shipping within Canada is included in your subscription.
Please note that lettermail is not tracked, and the oversized boxes (10 x 13"/25 x 33cm) may not fit in some mailboxes.
We cannot use Lettermail for U.S. addresses due to customs regulations, but we do offer untracked small parcel shipping to the U.S. for $5 CAN per box.
If you wish to upgrade to tracked shipping, please contact us before subscribing.
-
Your first box will be shipped by September 20th, 2024. Boxes are shipped monthly, by the 20th of each month. You'll receive a shipping confirmation email when your box is shipped, and in most cases you should receive the box within 1-2 weeks of the shipment date.
-
You can cancel your subscription at any time. You can access your subscription options through your customer account or through the link you'll receive in your confirmation email.
Subscription charges are not refundable, so if you've already been charged for the next box at the time of cancellation you'll receive one final box to fulfill that payment
-
You can update your information at any time through your customer account, or contact us by email and we'll make the change for you. Please allow at least 5 business days before the next shipping date for us to update your address.

Because this yarn club is structured as a complete course, with concepts and skills building on each other throughout the year, we’re not planning to accept new members partway through.
If there's enough interest we may start another cohort at a later date. If this interests you please email us and we will add you to our waiting list.
-
We'll schedule each Zoom session at least two weeks in advance, and hopefully most members will be able to join us. We completely understand that the timing may not work for everyone though, and attending the sessions is completely optional.
We're not planning to record these sessions, since they're really intended as a chance for you to ask us any questions you might have about the club, and an opportunity to chat with other members and show off your work.
If you're not able to attend the sessions, we will be happy to answer any questions by email or in our club-specific discussion group.

Not at all! If you can knit, purl, cast on, pick up stitches, and bind off, you have all the skills you need to create your blanket. Each month one of the blanket square patterns will be simpler and one will be more complex, so you can choose to knit whichever one suits your skill level (or both if you want more variety in your blanket).
We'll also be building our skills throughout the club, so that by the end of the year you will be familiar with a variety of colourwork techniques, regardless of your starting point.
-
You’re more than welcome to join in; we’d love to have you! Please note though, that although the colour concepts we explore will be applicable to all yarn crafts, the blanket square patterns and technique information provided will be knitting-specific.
-
Yes. We take the responsibility of creating safe and inclusive online spaces seriously. Any yarn club subscribers participating in our Zoom sessions or online discussion spaces must adhere to our Members Code of Conduct.
-
We know that different crafters have different priorities when it comes to their yarn choices, so we wanted to offer two options for you to choose from.
The Organic Merino option is very soft and has been “eco-processed” to prevent felting and make it easy to care for.
The Blue-Faced Leicester (BFL) option is not superwash treated, but is quite soft and has a beautiful lustre.
-
The Organic Merino wool is sourced from New Zealand and is treated in Germany with the EXP 4.0 eco-wash process. The BFL wool is sourced from the UK. Both yarns are spun in Ontario, and hand-dyed in our Montreal studio.
-
Nope! By the end of the year you’ll have received a full rainbow (or colour wheel) of yarn in many different shades and values, but we won’t be sending them in rainbow order. We will choose the colours for each box to illustrate a specific colour theory concept, so each month’s colours will be a surprise.
-
The natural cream mini-skein included in each box is intended to be used as an edging for your squares, and for joining them together to create your blanket. You can of course also use it within the squares, or for whatever else you’d like! By including a small amount in each box you’ll be able to work the edging on your squares throughout the year, rather than leaving it all to be done at the end.
-
Each blanket pattern is designed to be about 5"/12cm square (including the edging). You will have enough yarn to knit at least 6 squares per month, which would give you 72 squares by the end of the year, and create a blanket approximately 40" x 45"/100cm x 115cm.
If you decide to knit fewer squares, you can simply make a smaller blanket. For example, if you knit just 2 squares per month you would have 24 by the end of the year, and could make a stroller or car seat size blanket, approximately 20" x 30"/50cm x 75cm. -
There are lots of other things you could make with your patchwork squares, such as pillows, coasters, bags, etc. Or you could choose not to knit any squares at all if you’d prefer to collect up your mini-skeins and use them for other projects such as a shawl or sweater. There’s really no right or wrong way to participate in this club, and we’ll be happy to discuss options and share ideas for other projects if blankets aren’t really your thing.
-
The 36 colours you will receive are exclusive to the Colour Wheel Adventures yarn club and aren’t available on any of our other base yarns. We will offer the option to purchase additional skeins of specific colours at the end of the year if you’re in need of extra yarn to finish off your blanket (or other project).
