The Skill Builder Box yarn club is like a mini-course in knitting techniques, shipped right to your door! This is an ongoing club, with a new yarn box and featured technique every two months. You can choose to purchase any of our boxes individually, or to subscribe on a bi-monthly basis.
Your purchase includes your yarn boxes (shipped every other month), an exclusive pattern from our featured designer for each box, and an invitation to join our online discussion space.
-
The pricing for the Skill Builder Box yarn club is as follows (all prices in CAD, not including tax):
- Single boxes: $79 + $10 shipping
- Bi-monthly subscription: $69 + $10 shipping per box (automatically charged every two months)
-
If you choose our bi-monthly subscription option you'll be charged for the first box on the day you subscribe, and your payment method will be automatically charged every two months from that date for the subsequent boxes.
-
Boxes are shipped bi-monthly, on the first day of the month, starting May 1, 2025. You'll receive a shipping confirmation email when your box is shipped, and in most cases you should receive the box within 1-2 weeks of the shipment date. All club boxes will be shipped with tracking.

Yes, we are planning this club as an ongoing series! We currently have the themes the first 6 boxes planned, which will take us through March 2026. We'll announce the featured techniques and designers for future boxes later in the year. If you have a technique suggestion for a future box we'd love to hear about it!
-
You can cancel your subscription at any time. You can access your subscription options through your customer account or through the link you'll receive in your confirmation email. Subscription charges are not refundable, so if you've already been charged for the next box at the time of cancellation you'll receive one
final box to fulfill that payment. You can also use the "skip payment" option if you would prefer not to receive a particular box, but would like to maintain your subscription.
-
You can update your information at any time through your customer account, or contact us by email and we'll make the change for you. Please allow at least 5 business days before the next shipping date for us to update your address.

Yes! New members are always welcome. We do have a limited capacity for this club, so if all spots are filled you can always join the waiting list and we'll notify you if a spot opens up.

Yes, if you've missed out on one of our previous boxes there will be an opportunity to catch up. -
Absolutely! We'll be happy to help you expand your skills as you venture into new knitting techniques with us. We recommend being able to cast on, cast off, and work knit and purl stitches, but no other previous knitting knowledge is required.
-
Our discussion group for the club will be hosted in a private space in our Sweet Paprika Community on the Mighty Networks platform.
We take the responsibility of creating safe and inclusive online spaces seriously. Any yarn club subscribers participating in our online discussion spaces must adhere to our Members Code of Conduct.
-
The yarns that we'll be using for these boxes will all be natural fibres, hand-dyed at our studio in Montreal. Most of them will be wool, there will be a mix of superwash and non-superwash, and some may contain a small percentage of nylon. Over the course of the club we will use range of yarn weights, and both Canadian-sourced and imported yarns.
-
Part 1 of each box will include 20-40g of pre-wound yarn so you can get started testing out the new technique right away. This yarn can also be used to swatch for your project.
Part 2 of each box will include a minimum of 200g of hand-dyed yarn, in colours and amounts appropriate for the featured pattern. For example, for a single-colour project you might receive 200g of the same colour, or for a colourwork box you might receive 100g of the main colour and 50g each of two contrast colours.
-
Yes, for each box we wil offer members the choice of at least three colours (or colour combinations for multi-colour projects). You will also have the option to keep the colour a surprise!
-
Yes, we are currently planning to use yarn bases and colours from our core collection for all upcoming boxes. If you love the yarn you are welcome to purchase additional skeins from our website. (Please note that we may not be able to match your original dye lot, and due to the nature of hand-dyed yarn the colour may vary slightly from batch to batch.)
-
The needles required will vary from project to project, and since many knitters already have a selection of their preferred type of needle in various sizes, we're not including needles in these boxes. We'll notify members of the recommended needle size in advance of each box, and if you don't happen to have that size on hand you'll be able to order them and have them included in your box without any additional shipping charges.
-
Yes, each box will include a new, exclusive pattern designed specifically for our club by our featured designer. The pattern will be revealed about 2 weeks after the club boxes are shipped.
If you're not keen on surprises and would prefer to get more information about the pattern in advance please contact us and we'll be happy to help you out.
-
The patterns are all designed specifically for the yarn you'll receive in your boxes, and the projects are chosen to highlight the featured technique. They'll all require approximately 200g of yarn, and will be for adult-sized accessories, such as hats, shawls, cowls, etc.
-
The pattern and tutorials will be provided in digital formats only. We'll provide links to to all members via email to the tutorials and to download the PDF pattern .
-
You're always welcome to choose your own project for the yarn you receive! If the featured pattern happens to not suit your taste or style we'll be happy to discuss alternative project ideas in our online discussion group.
-
The patterns will be exclusively available to our club members for two months after the design is revealed. After two months the designers may choose to make the pattern available for individual purchase on other platforms such as Ravelry, Payhip, etc.
